Hawthorn University does not work on a semester basis. We have reported the figures as required by the state, but would like to additionally bring you our enrollment information in the following manner, which may be better adapted to an open enrollment university. The Bureau of Private Postsecondary Education requires that information for 2011 and 2010 be included in the Fact Sheet.

HAWTHORN UNIVERSITY Enrollment Information through December 31, 2012.

Hawthorn University offered three degree programs in the calendar year 2012:
  • Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition (MSHN)
  • Master of Science in Health and Nutrition Education (MHNE)
  • Doctor of Science in Holistic Nutrition (DSC)
Hawthorn offered one certificate program in the calendar year 2012:
  • Nutrition Consultant (NC)
Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition (MSHN)
  • During 2012, ninety-five (95) students enrolled in the Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition program; five resigned.
  • Three hundred and eighty six (386) people have enrolled since the inception of this program in May 2004.
  • This program has had forty-four (44) graduates through 12/31/12.
Master of Science in Health and Nutrition Education (MHNE)
  • In 2012, thirty-eight (38) students enrolled in the Master of Science in Health and Nutrition Education program; five resigned.
  • Two hundred and forty six people (246) have enrolled since the inception of this program in May 2006.
  • There were sixty (60) graduates from this program through 12/31/12.
Doctor of Science in Holistic Nutrition (DSC)
  • In 2012, the Doctor of Science in Holistic Nutrition program enrolled nine (9) students; two resigned.
  • Fifty one (51) individuals have enrolled since the inception of this program in February 2007.
  • One person graduated prior to 12/31/12, and we are anticipating 4 more doctoral students to graduate in 2013.
Nutrition Consultant (NC)
  • In 2012, the Nutrition Consultant program enrolled forty-one (41) students; two resigned.
  • One hundred and ninety nine (199) people have enrolled since the inception of this program in April 2003.
  • This program had twenty-nine (29) graduates by 12/31/12.
The following information is data compiled from the period January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011.   In compliance with the California Postsecondary Education Act of 2009, Hawthorn University provides the following Statements of Fact. The Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE), as the regulatory body for private postsecondary institutions for the State of California, requires that each institution provide the following information to students, prior to enrollment, as evidence of recognition of the need to address consumer protection:

  • Completion rates for each program of instruction;
  • Placement rates for each program of instruction;
  • License-examination rates for any program to which that statistic is applicable;
  • Salary or wage information for each career, occupation, trade, job, or job title, as applicable, for which students are prepared.
Hawthorn University currently offers three degree programs and one certificate program. Degree programs are multiple year programs. The DSC program started in 2007, The MSHN program started in 2004 and the MHNE program started in 2007.

1 "Number of Students Who Began Program" is the number of students who began the program who are scheduled to complete the program within the reporting calendar year.

2 "Students available for graduation" is the number of students who began program minus the number of "Students unavailable for graduation," which means those students who have dropped the program, died, been incarcerated, or called to active military duty.

3 "Graduates" is the number of students who completed the program within 100% of the published program length.

4 "Completion Rate" is the number of Graduates divided by the Number of Students Available for Graduation.

5 "150% Graduates" is the number of students who completed the program within 101%-150% of the published program length.

6 "150% Completion Rate" is the number of students who completed the program in the reported calendar year within 101-150% of the published program length divided by the Number of Students Available for Graduation in the published program length period.

1 "Number of Students Who Began Program" means the number of students who began the program who are scheduled to complete the program within the reporting calendar year.

2 "Number of Graduates" is the number of students who have completed the program within 100% of the published program length.

3 "Graduates available for employment" means the number of graduates minus the number of graduates unavailable for employment. “Graduates unavailable for employment" means graduates who, after graduation, die, become incarcerated, are called to active military duty, are international students that leave the United States or do not have a visa allowing employment in the United States, or are continuing their education in an accredited or bureau-approved postsecondary institution.

4 "Graduates employed in the field" means graduates who report that they are gainfully employed within six months of graduation in a position for which the skills obtained through the education and training provided by the institution are required or provided a significant advantage to the graduate in obtaining the position.

5 Placement Rate is calculated by dividing the number of graduates gainfully employed in the field by the number of graduates available for employment.

* Starting in 2011 Hawthorn University is complying with the California Postsecondary Act of 2009 by collecting placement data through anecdotal reports via phone, email, and surveys.

Number of students who began program is the number of students who began the program who are scheduled to complete the program within the reporting calendar year.

Students available for graduation is the number of students who began the program minus the number of “Students unavailable for graduation,” which means those students who have died, been incarcerated, or called to active military duty.

Graduates is the number of students who completed the program within 100% of the published program length.

Completion Rate is calculated by dividing the number of Graduates divided by the Number of Students Available for Graduation.

Placement rate shall be calculated as follows: the number of graduates who are employed in the field divided by the number of graduates available for employment.

Hawthorn University’s unique curriculum focuses on students building their own businesses; however the University is providing the mean salaries and wages information as given by the California Employment Development Department.

The chart below reflects the wage data for the job or job titles provided by the Employment Development Department’s Occupational Employment Statistics (http://www.labormarketinfo.edd.ca.gov). This salary information does NOT reflect the actual jobs obtained by Hawthorn University graduates upon graduation, but rather all jobs in the industry, whether entry level, mid-level or senior/upper level jobs typically held by more experienced practitioners.
