The focus of the program is to develop a sophisticated knowledge of holistic
nutrition education and the skills needed to become conversant with the field.

| Upon completion of this program, graduates must demonstrate a thorough and
comprehensive knowledge of nutrition education. Students will evaluate and
synthesize the major literature, theories, practices, problems and ethical
issues in holistic nutrition education. Students will demonstrate professional
skills in holistic health and wellness promotion, and an in-depth knowledge of
nutrition education. Students will evaluate and synthesize current holistic and
scientific nutrition information and demonstrate a coherent and comprehensive
knowledge of today’s nutrition education environment. Students will analyze and
evaluate the strengths and problems facing nutrition educators using a guided
independent study process. |

Students must be able to communicate effectively with clarity and
sophistication in written and oral form and must synthesize and apply holistic
nutrition education concepts. Students acquire a breadth of knowledge that is
the hallmark of education at Hawthorn University. |

| Some of the topics students explore include: the environment of nutrition
education, strategies for nutrition educators, holistic health coaching, and
health supportive food guidelines and nutrition and the human body. |
